It's so weird.Xbox announced its Black Friday plan this weekend: I'm quite sure it's on Game Pass you should download it and just start it, see just how different from other gears games it is. Needless to say I was happy when it was over and I got to go into Gears 4 where it was back to the normal Gears formula and story line.
It's not terrible, but it's also not a great game. I went Gears 1, 2, 3, Judgement and whoa what a mindfuck of a switch. The story doesn't really matter in it, the gameplay is really grab two weapons and clear shit until you're at the end of a level. With that said, my friend and I had fun playing through it, but we were often times going "Wow, why does this game exist?" and "Was this a different team, maybe it's a hold over title inbetween big titles?". I'd almost say it's meant as a co-op experience, and can wholeheartedly be skipped. It still controls great, still has Gears visuals and Gears take cover mechanics / enemies as well, but it is so not a gears game like you'd imagine. It's instantly noticeable that it's not a mainline Gears game, everything about it is slightly off. It's basically a horde mode game, you go to section kill enemies, door opens go to section kill enemies go through door, repeat. I mean, go point a to point b no variation. It's such a weird game, everything is funneled, it's extremely linear.
